Deregulation - Issues for AMEDIS
The recent deregulation changes affecting AWP and CLUB machines have had a significant affect in several areas which need to be implemented in AMEDIS. Over the last few months the AMEDIS Standards Group has been preparing for these changes and the affect on software, systems and standards is outlined below.
Note Changers, Note Acceptors.
To differentiate between pre and post deregulation we have identified the Note Changer as pre deregulation and the Note Acceptor as post deregulation. Note Changers have therefore been around for some time and are fitted to many sited machines. a note changer only gives change so a £10 note in produces £10 worth of £1 coins out.
The post deregulation Note Acceptor will allow the player to put £2 of the change directly onto the play meter. This difference affects not only the potential income of the machine but also the performance calculations.
AMEDIS Model Codes.
The convention for identifying a machine with a Note Changer attached has been to put 'NC' in the last two characters of the code. This convention is now extended so that a machine with a Note Acceptor fitted will have 'NA' in the last two characters.
Example:
Lord of the Rings The Two Towers £2
BFG82500 is the code for this machine without any attachment
BFG825NC is the code with a Note Changer attached
BFG825NA is the code with a Note Acceptor attached
The inclusion of 'NC' or 'NA' has to be provided for in the users system. The AMEDIS Model code database, accessible on this website, does not include these codes in the displays.
New Meters
In order to correctly account for all of the implications of the recent changes and planned future changes; the AMEDIS Standards Group together with the EDC Dataport Committee has agreed a new set of meter definitions viz:
Some of the meters in this list are not yet in use but to correctly account for income and calculate performance with a Note Acceptor fitted Meters 7,8 and 13 have to be used.
AMEDIS Standards
To cater for the new meters the AMEDIS Standards have had to be updated. A new version, version 6, has been designed and many companies are now working on the software changes needed to support the new standard. AMDeX have already modified the AM-e-Com Software to accept the new standard.
